Hey guys, my name is Russell Willingham and I’m from New Creation Ministries.

At the age of 7, I was first introduced to pornography. The grip of sexual addiction grew and in my teens, I became more dependent on porn. Seeking it out and taking increasing risks on where and when to find it, I was acting out daily. By the age of 16, I had plans, with a friend of mine, to seek out a prostitute. All the while, moving toward a cliff, not realizing the danger I was in.

It was in this world of ever-increasing darkness that Jesus Christ found me. I began to turn my back on all the sexual perversion and seek freedom from my previous life. But below the surface, the root issues that had driven me to porn still existed. I had knocked all the branches off the twisted tree of my past – but the trunk, with all its roots, was still very much alive.

That brokenness followed me into marriage, and church work. It was at this point that the loneliness and despair caught up to me. My wife and I ended up in a therapist’s office, and slowly God began to heal me as I exposed my inner self to another believer. But counseling alone wasn’t enough. It wasn’t until I faced the pain of my childhood, and identified the root causes of my sexual addiction that true freedom came.

If you’re here and still reading, chances are you can relate. You’ve tried to stop on your own, but you can’t seem to break the cycle of addiction long-term. And every time you fail, shame and hopelessness rush in because you think you should be past this by now.

The one thing I have never been successful in is having victory over pornography and masturbation. That was until seven years ago when all that changed. Now I can say I have broken the chains of pornography and masturbation.

Confess, it is all I heard from Jesus. Every time I prayed. For weeks “Confess”. I told Jesus, “Do you know what that means?”

Finally, I went to Mike Manzie at New Creation Ministries and confessed that I had been talking to girls online, and I was struggling with pornography. Mike didn’t judge me, he told me he was proud of me for confessing. Then he gave me a game plan for the next days.

So, I confessed to my Church leadership and my wife. I had a bag packed just in case my wife kicked me out. She didn’t, she forgave me and shared some of her pain as well. That was 10 months ago.

We’re both in counseling now and growing closer together, and I am growing closer to Jesus again. After I confessed, I went to Jesus the next day. Jesus’ reply was, “I Love you!”. I’m still in process. Thank you, Jesus!
